JOHN FISCHER (1930-2016) Espirit Two 1985 signed and dated 1985 on the reverse oil on canvas 48 by 40 in. 121.9 by 101.6 cm. Footnotes: Provenance Private Collection, Florida A truly multidisciplinary artist, John Fischer dabbled in happenings, jazz, painting and technology. Born in Belgium in 1930, Fischer fled with his family to New York City, where he quickly left his artistic stamp on the city. Voiding his work of monetary value, Fischer gained notoriety in the 1960s for his bread sculptures, garnering praise from luminaries such as Marcel Duchamp and Salvador Dali. While Fischer continued to push the boundaries of artistic process after relocating to Geneva, Switzerland, he also produced more conventional canvases, while pioneering in the space of computer art, using technology to unlock a universe of colors not found in traditional materials.
