Chippendale Mahogany Tilt-top Candlestand, Massachusetts, late 18th century. Small dished top mounted across grain with two slender cleats hinging on a birdcage mechanism with four baluster-turned corners joining blocks mortised to receive tenoned top of an urn- and baluster-turned pillar, the in-cut base blind-dovetailed to three cabriole legs on platformed arris pad feet, 53cm wide, 53cm deep, 71cm high (21in wide, 21in deep, 28 1/4in high).
