The design in red and black on a white ground. Provenance Ernst Heinrich, Stuttgart, Bad Kannstatt, Germany, aquired before 1940 and Loed and Mia van Bussel, Amsterdam. For a shield with the same characteristic design of the stylized flying foxes and the use of an anthropomorphic figure in the middle, see 'Ozianische Kunst, Meiserwerke aus dem Museum for Volkerkunde', Basel, 1980, number 7.
