Artist information:
Geo Poggenbeek was a passionate draftsman. On the age of 19, he exchanged his office job for a life as a painter. Poggenbeek regularly went out to paint in Oosterbeek and Rolde. After finishing the Academy, Poggenbeek went to Amsterdam in 1878. In between, he made a number of study trips to Switzerland, France and Italy. In the early 1890s, Poggenbeek spent longer periods in Normandy and Brittany. Poggenbeek turned out to be a real landscape painter who’s paintings are fresh and delicate in atmosphere. For this reason, his work is often compared to that of Anton Mauve.
