Séraphin SOUDBININE (1867-1944) - Nadia Xicota - Sculpture en marbre signée sur l'épaule droite- 50 x 25 x 40 cm - Séraphin Nikolaevich Soudbinine, né à Nijni Novgorod le 21 mars 1867 et mort le 1er novembre 1944 à Paris, est un sculpteur et céramiste d'origine russe installé à Paris. Issu d'une famille de commerçants, les Golovastikov, il exerce de petits métiers (mousse sur la Volga, employé du télégraphe) avant de se passionner pour le théâtre qu'il pratique d'abord dans sa ville natale, adoptant le nom de scène de Soudbinine, puis lors de tournées dans des théâtres de province, avant d'intégrer en 1898 la première troupe du théâtre d'art de Moscou où il joue notamment Tchekhov, Tolstoï ou Gorki.Ayant obtenu une bourse de Savva Morozov, il s'installe à Paris en 1904 à la suite de sa rencontre avec Auguste Rodin dont il est l'élève puis l'assistant pendant dix ans, tout en menant sa propre carrière de sculpteur. Born into a family of merchants, the Golovastikovs, he worked in small trades (foam on the Volga, telegrapher's employee) before becoming passionate about theatre, which he practised first in his native town, adopting the stage name of Soudbinine, then during tours in provincial theatres, before joining in 1898 the first troupe of the Moscow Art Theatre where he played Chekhov, Tolstoy or Gorky. Having obtained a scholarship from Savva Morozov, he moved to Paris in 1904 following his meeting with Auguste Rodin, of whom he was a pupil and then assistant for ten years, while pursuing his own career as a sculptor. He is in particular the practitioner for Rodin of "The Hand of God or Creation.
