A handwritten invoice, printed header from the Durand Ruel Gallery in New York, «Paris, October 27, 1921», regarding the purchase of 13 works of art.MATSUKATA (KŌJIRŌ). 1866-1950, et autour.Ensemble de 2 pièces -dont une signée. 1919, 1921, concernant sa collection d’art.Une lettre dactylographiée signée par Matsukata Kōjirō lui-même avec P.S. manuscrit,“Kobe, Nov. 1st, 1919”, sur papier en-tête “ KawasakiDockyard Company, Ltd”, adressée à [Léonce Bénédite] “M. Leone Benedicte, Director, Musee Rodin, Paris”.Une facture manuscrite, en-tête imprimé de la Galerie Durand Ruel de New-York, “Paris, le 27 octobre 1921”, concernant l’achat de 13oeuvres d’art le 7 juillet 1921.Riche armateur, homme d'affaires japonais amateur d'art, fils d’un premier ministre de l’ère Meiji, Matsukata Kōjirō se constitua, entre 1916 et 1927 lors de ses voyages d’affaires en Europe, une fabuleuse collection d’art français avec pour ambition de créer un musée consacré à l'art occidental dans son pays. La crise financière et la guerre vinrent ruiner son projet. Conservée à Londres et à Paris durant l’entre-deux guerres, sa collection londonienne disparut dans un incendie en 1939, tandis que la partie parisienne fut mise sous séquestre en 1944, considérée comme un bien appartenant à l'ennemi. Matsukata Kōjirō meurt le 24 juin 1950 sans avoir pu revoir sa collection. Elle ne fut restituée au japon qu’en 1953 à la suite de longues tractations menées par ses enfants qui reprennent le projet de bâtir un musée d’art.Le Musée national de l'Art occidental imaginé par Matsukata Kōjirō, bâti par Le Corbusier, fut finalement inauguré à Tokyo le 10 juin 1959.Starting price : 800

6. TEMPORARY IMPORTATION

6.1. Any Lot marked with a symbol “plus (+)” are “free port” and are subject to import tax.

The Buyer intending to import the aforesaid Lot into the European Union should be aware that an import tax will be due on the Hammer Price.

This import tax shall be paid to Hermitage Fine Art in addition to other fees

(e.g.: 5.5% for antiques and works of art in Monaco).

6.2. Any other Lots are in free circulation within the European Union.

6.3. The Buyer shall be responsible for checking and fulfilling all the conditions for the transportation of the Lots to their destination, including, but not limited to, checking the import status of the Lots, and the regulations for importation at destination.

 

2. The following lots are subject to Artist's Resale Right (an additional 3% will be added to hammer price)
(Authors of original works of art are entitled to a royalty each time one of their works is resold through an art market professional)
