A GERMAN CAVALRY OFFICER’S SABER WIT ETCHED BLADE IN TREUE FEST .
Origin: Germany, probably Bavaria, 19th century 2nd half.
Slightly curved delicate single edged blade with one wide fuller both sides. No maker’s marks. Both sides etched cartouch with floral décor and inscription: In / Treue / fest.
Closed, iron hilt, single knuckle-bow fixed to the pommel, shorter arm with flat, round finial. Long backstrap from pommel to the ring above the yelman. Wooden grip covered with rayskin, secured with two twisted steel wires.
Scabbard missing.
Dimensions: total length – 98 cm, blade’s length – 83,5 cm, blade’s width – 20 mm, thickness – 6 mm.
