A FRENCH M1821 LIGHT INFANTRY OFFICER’S SABER WITH GERMAN BLADE BY P. KNECHT, SOLINGEN.
Sabre d’officier d’infanterie, modèle 1821.
Origin: France after 1821, blade – German, Solingen.
Blade: steel slightly bent single edged blade a la Montmorency, with one wide fuller and one narrow next to the edge. Maker’s inscription (partially damaged) engraved on ricasso: P. Kne[ch]t / a Solingen. Engraved decoration on both sides of the blade.
Closed brass hilt, two branches, short backstrap, wooden grip covered with a black leather.
Scabbard missing.
Total length – 87 cm; length of the blade – 73 cm; width – 31 mm; thickness – 8 mm.
