A FRENCH M1845/1855 INFANTRY OFFICER’S SABER. FRANCE, CHATELLERAULT.
Origin: France, 19th century, 2nd half.
Blade: steel slightly bent single edged blade a la Montmorency, with one wide fuller and one narrow next to the edge. In the place where false edge starts, wide fuller becomes narrower and one close to the edge becomes wider. Maker’s stamps on the spine: Manuf[actu]re de Klingenthal ???.
The sword features a diagonally ribbed horn grip, with fitted gilded brass ornately scrolled guard and patterned pommel.
Scabbard of steel, later black painted, with a single band with carrying ring.
Total length in scabbard – 92,5 cm; without scabbard – 90,5 cm, length of the blade – 77 cm; width – 30 mm; thickness – 6 mm.
