A BRITISH 1845 PATTERN INFANTRY OFFICER’S SWORD WITH ETCHED BLADE, VICTORIAN PERIOD.
Origin: United Kingdom, around 1870-1880.
Blade: straight single edged blade with one wide fuller both sides. Both sides etched cartouche with scroll work and VR monogram under the crown, for Queen Victoria. Similar half-cartouche on ricasso, with PROVED inscription in a brass disc, on other side hexagram.
Gothic style closed brass half-basket hilt with open work, Queen Victoria early monogram in the guard. Long, decorated back strap finishing at the ring above the yelman. Knot slit on the knuckle bow, next to the pommel. Wooden grip covered with brown leather, secured with single twisted and double straight wire.
Steel scabbard with two bands and carrying rings.
Overall length in scabbard – 102 cm; overall length out of scabbard – 99,5 cm; blade’s length –85 cm, width – 25 mm, thickness – 6 mm.
