A BRITISH ROYAL ARTILLERY PERSONALIZED OFFICER’S SWORD WITH ETCHED BLADE, GEORGE V PERIOD.
Origin: United Kingdom, late 19th to early 20th century.
Blade: straight single edged blade with one wide fuller both sides. On both sides etched cartouches with scroll work. In middle part – GR V (George V) monogram under the crown, on reverse: ROYAL ARTILLERY inscription with canon in between. On ricasso hexagram with a brass disc inscribed PROVED, on other side – empty heraldic shield.
Closed steel hilt with three branches. Long, decorated back strap cut “diamond” shape for a better grip, finishing at the ring above the yelman. Knot slit on the knuckle bow. Wooden grip covered with rayskin leather, secured with single twisted and double straight steel wire. Engraved owner’s name inside of hilt: E. SLATER.
Leather scabbard without carrying rings.
Overall length in scabbard – 107,5 cm; overall length out of scabbard – 103,6 cm; blade’s length – 88,5 cm, width – 25 mm, thickness – 6 mm.
