A BRITISH ROYAL ARTILLERY OFFICER’S SWORD WITH ETCHED BLADE, RETAILED BY ARMY & NAVY COOPERATIVE SOCIETY, GEORGE V PERIOD.
Origin: United Kingdom, Victorian period.
Blade: slightly curved single edged blade with one wide fuller both sides. Nickel coated. On both sides etched cartouche with scroll work. In middle part – GR V (George V) monogram under the crown, above the canon, on reverse: symmetrical panoply between ROYAL ARTILLERY inscription. On ricasso hexagram with a brass disc inscribed PROVED, on other side inscription: ARMY & NAVY COOPERATIVE SOCIETY – 106 – VICTORIA ST. LONDON – SW -. Numbered: 02172 on the edge.
Closed steel hilt with three branches. Long, decorated back strap cut “diamond” shape for a better grip, finishing at the ring above the yelman. Knot slit on the knuckle bow. Wooden grip covered with rayskin leather, secured with single spring twisted and double twisted brass wire.
Steel scabbard with two bands and carrying rings.
Overall length in scabbard – 102,8 cm; overall length out of scabbard – 100,3 cm; blade’s length – 85,4 cm, width – 25 mm, thickness – 7 mm.
