A FRENCH “BRIQUET” SWORD, MODEL FOR INFANTRY OF THE IMPERIAL GUARD 1904, FOR NATIONAL GUARD, EARLY 19TH CENTURY. ETCHED BLADE.Sabre dit “Briquet” sur le model d’infanterie de la garde imperial 1804, pour la Garde Nationale, Epoque Restauration. Lame marquee: GARDE NATIONAL / ORDRE PUBLIC.Origin: France, early 19th century, restoration period.Blade: steel slightly bent single edged blade with one wide fuller both sides. Etched decoration: cock (Gallic symbol of France) and inscription “Garde Nationale” on right side of the blade and “Ordre Public” above floral motifs on left side.Closed brass hilt with a single knucklebow from yelman to the pommel, with brass ring between the cross-guard and grip, wooden grip covered with black leather fixed with brass wire.Scabbard: of brown leather, with brass mouth and a chape.
