Francesco Petrucci hat in seinem Gutachten das Gemälde überzeugend als eine Arbeit von Girolamo Troppa identifiziert. Petrucci hat darüber hinaus in jüngeren Veröffentlichungen das Oeuvre Troppas fassbar gemacht (vgl. F. Petrucci, Considerazioni su Girolamo Troppa un 'tenebrista' del tardo Seicento romano, in: Prospettiva: rivista di storia dell'arte antica e moderna, Nr. 146, 2012 S. 88-102). Troppa war zunächst ein Nachfolger Pier Francesco Molas, wurde jedoch auch von Giovanni Battista Gaulli beeinflusst, als dessen Gehilfe er bei der Ausstattung der römischen Kirche Santa Marta mitwirkte. Sein späteres Schaffen steht auch unter dem Einfluss von Carlo Maratta.

Francesco Petrucci meanwhile identified the painting as a work by Girolamo Troppa. Troppa's artistic oeuvre has been described in recent contributions by Petrucci (cf. F.
