Reverse a little off-centre, otherwise good very fine or better £1,500-£2,000 --- Provenance: Chawton (Hampshire) Hoard. This coin, together with those in Lots 11-16 and Lot 18, derive from a hoard discovered on land near Chawton in several parts between 2011 and 2020. The first tranche was reported as treasure trove and delivered to the British Museum in March 2012 [Ref. 2012T43; HAMP-6DFB33]. The PAS database describes it thus. ‘All (105) of the gold coins are of Iron Age date and of types produced between about AD 10 and 45. The vast majority (98) are coins struck for Verica, a local king with a powerbase in central-southern England (Hampshire and surrounding counties). One coin was struck by Verica's contemporary, Cunobelin, who ruled a territory covering much of eastern England and Kent. The remaining six coins were struck in the name of Epaticcus, who is usually identified as a brother of Cunobelin. He issued coins in the Berkshire-Hampshire-Wiltshire area, in about AD 30-45’. A further 20 coins were unearthed and declared in 2019 [2019T712; HAMP-192454] and thirteen more in 2020 [2021T362]. All 138 coins have been disclaimed and returned to the landowner and finders
