A FAMILLE ROSE 'EUROPEAN HUNTING SCENE' PUNCH BOWL Late Qianlong The exterior boldly enamelled with two large panels of European huntsmen on horseback, variously carrying bows and lances, galloping across a grassy terrace accompanied by a baying pack of white hounds, one side with the chase, the other with a slain deer and another escaping, all on an elaborate coral and purple ground, the interior with scattered foliage below the rim, wood stand. 26cm (10 1/4in) diam. Chait Galleries, New York, 5 May 2017 A European private collection The painting of the present lot is based on a European hunting scene. It was first fired at Jingdezhen and subsequently brought to Canton where it was later decorated for export to Europe. It stands as a fine example of porcelain produced for the maritime trade in the eighteenth century.
