AN ANNIE FLANDERS 1984 CFDA AWARD STATUETTE. TROVA, ERNEST, after. Stainless steel statuette on base, 325 x 120 x 95 mm, with engraved plaque reading 'Council of Fashion Designers of America / 1984 / Annie Flanders.' In 1984, two years after the founding of Details, Annie Flanders was honored by the CFDA for her 'fresh approach to the fashion industry' in the pages of her magazine, which famously supported and nurtured emerging designers in its pages. The CFDA statuette is based on a sculpture by surrealist American artist Ernest Trova (1927-2009) titled 'Falling Man,' which itself seems inspired by the fashion mannequins Trova worked with during his years as a window dresser for a department store.
