A French Naval Officer's Sword Early 19th Century With curved fullered blade (some old pitting and staining) double-edged towards the point, the forte over both sides etched and gilt with differing trophies, a crescent moon, and foliage, originally against a blued ground, brass hilt cast with acanthus, an anchor against crossed banners over a sun-in-splendour on each langet, knuckle-guard with pierced loop at the top cast with acanthus, rear quillon with monster-head terminal, pommel engraved with a flower-head on top, and ebony grip (old split on one side) diagonally fluted on both sides, in its black leather scabbard (seam partly open, repaired above the chape) with brass locket and chape, the former engraved with a mermaid on one side, stamped with stars on the other, and with a suspension hook on both sides, the latter engraved with foliage on one side, stamped with stars on the other and with shell-shaped terminal 72.8 cm. blade For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com For further information about this lot please visit the lot listing
