Early Malayer Carpet, Iran Circa 1850, An early, spacious, and somewhat unusual carpet which at first glance looks to be a finely woven Serapi, but upon closer inspection it has a Malayer or Senneh weave. The foundation is all cotton. Single-wefted. The dyes are all natural and deeply saturated. The carpet is in its original size and very good condition for its age including the original braided end finishes. A truly rare and early Malayer carpet for the sophisticated collector and still perfectly usable on the floor. Provenance: The William Dana Lippman collection 10 ft. 5 in. x 10 ft. 10 in.
