Grosses Modell eines Pferdekopfes nach römischem Vorbild
Frankreich, 19. Jahrhundert

Aus zwei Teilen zusammengefügtes, vollplastisches Gipsmodell eines Pferdekopes. Rest. Alterssp. Späterer Eisenstand.
Der Pferdekopf geht zurück auf zwei antike Vorbilder. Zum einen auf den sogenannten "Medici-Riccardi", heute Museo Archeologico in Florenz und zum anderen auf den "Protome Carafa", heute Museo Archeologico in Neapel. Diese beiden Köpfe stehen auch in engem Bezug zu dem von Donatello geschaffenen Reiterstandbild des Gattamelata (entstanden 1447-1453) vor der Kirche Sant'Antonio in Padua, das als erstes monumentales Reiterstandbild der Renaissance gilt.
